Internship title:
Cooperation with Africa in Earth observation

In line with its Strategy, EUMETSAT is supporting various activities and projects for developing countries, with a focus on Africa, Western Balkan and Eastern European countries.

The objective is to help the users to get easier access to, and make best use of, EUMETSAT data, products and services to help individual countries and regions to meet their respective needs.

In recent years, EUMETSAT has also extended these activities to support access and use of Copernicus data, with a focus on the Sentinel mission operated by EUMETSAT.

EUMETSAT activities with Africa are implemented in the broader context of the joint EU-Africa Strategy.

EUMETSAT contributes to various EU-funded programmes that aim at strengthening African capacities in the use of satellite data and the implementation of added-value services at regional and national level.

In the near future, the main challenge will be to ensure that African user capacities are strengthened to access and exploit the next generation of EUMETSAT meteorological satellites data: Meteosat Third Generation (MTG) and EPS-Second Generation (EPS-SG); and to create added-value services in synergies with Copernicus products.

After getting more acquainted with the activities and projects undertaken by EUMETSAT in support to developing countries, the intern will support EUMETSAT in implementing some activities and initiative that will support Africa in getting benefits from MTG and EPS-SG.

In order to achieve so, the intern will have to accomplish several tasks, including desktop research, interview EUMETSAT staff involved in activities in support to developing countries, interview of users, showcasing some good practices, organisation and preparation of meeting, and contribution to on-line webinar and meeting with African users and partners.

The intern will work mainly with the Strategy, Communication and International Relations (SCIR) division. But she/he will also interact with other divisions at EUMETSAT (e.g. User Service Division).

The intern will also be in contact with some EUMETSAT users in developing countries, either through interviews or in person during meetings or Fora.
