We are looking for an experienced


(Senior) Privacy Counsel (m/w/d)
to join our Ethical Innovation & Privacy team.

The Ethical Innovation Team's purpose is to enable Takeda to deliver trustworthy innovation in a data-driven world. This role will enable Takeda's activities in Germany and Austria.


As Takeda expands its digital footprint, this role will work to develop, mature, and implement the company's privacy and data protection programs.

Your tasks in detail:


  • You serve as a partner to senior leaders and feel comfortable collaborating, advising, and communicating with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Your responsibilities include conducting risk assessments on digital initiatives including AI systems and advising the business on appropriate privacy and data protection risk mitigations.
  • You lead privacy training and awareness initiatives with business stakeholders.
  • You are involved close collaboration with Works Councils to craft and negotiate comprehensive privacy agreements, ensuring our practices meet rigorous privacy standards and the unique needs of the Councils.

Key Accountabilities:

Risk Assessment: Evaluate and counsel the local business on data protection risks associated with digital initiatives, programs, and systems. Lead privacy impact assessments for local initiatives.

Works Councils Collaboration: Collaborate closely with Works Councils to craft, implement, and maintain robust privacy agreements. Regularly liaise with Council members to ensure shared understanding and adherence to privacy standards and procedures.

AI Risk and Regulation Alignment: Assess and advise on the data protection risks associated with the development and deployment of Artificial Intelligence within the company. Additionally, stay abreast of emerging AI regulations and collaborate with the Global Tech Ethics and Data Privacy Team to ensure the organization aligns with these forthcoming rules, preparing the company for a future in which AI plays a significant role.

Training and Awareness: Lead privacy and data protection training initiatives at the local level; design and deliver privacy training tailored to local needs, promoting a culture of awareness and compliance.

Authority Engagement: Respond to local data protection authority requests/inspections in collaboration with Takeda's Chief Privacy Officer, maintaining an open and cooperative relationship with regulators.

Regulatory and Legislative Tracking: Vigilantly monitor local data legislative and regulatory developments; analyse and lead in implementing, with the support of the Global Privacy Office, new rules and regulations in the respective countries.

Vendor Due Diligence: Conduct thorough privacy-related assessments of local vendors, ensuring they meet our rigorous privacy standards.

Networking: Actively participate in internal and external networks and groups to support the business, maintain an up-to-date level of privacy expertise, and enable benchmarking of best practices


Your profile:


  • Legal credentials: Qualified Lawyer
  • Professional working experience in Privacy and data protection, preferably gained at a highly regarded law firm or inhouse position
  • Privacy Certification(s) like IAPP-CIPM/CIPT/CIPE or equivalent would be an advantage.
  • Experience in negotiating, implementing, and maintaining complex privacy agreements with Works Councils. Deep understanding of Works Councils' operations and legal frameworks is preferable.
  • Experience in advising or representing clients in the healthcare industry would be an advantage.
  • Experience in leveraging privacy expertise to develop programs, training, and tools.
  • A healthy curiosity and proactively learn about emerging trends in data regulation and policy.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, assess, and prioritize risks.
  • Native or nearnative level fluency in both spoken and written German is essential for this role. A strong command of the English language (both verbal and written) is also indispensable.
  • Must bring an enthusiastic approach to the role, inspiring positivity, and momentum even during challenging times.
  • Must possess the ability to independently advise on riskbased decisions involving regulatory, reputational, and financial risks, always acting with a high degree of integrity. Demonstrated autonomy in decisionmaking processes is crucial.
