About us:

The Chair of Public Health and Health Services Research, Institute for Medical Information Processing, Biometry and Epidemiology (IBE), Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) Munich, Pettenkofer School of Public Health, is looking for a Student Research Assistant
in Maternal and Child Nutrition.

Specifically, you will support coordination, scientific research and didactic work in the area of "Breastfeeding and the Commercial Determinants of Health." This position will be embedded in a study evaluating the characteristics and costs of personal and medical breast pumps sold in Germany.


We are looking for you:

Student Research Assistant in Maternal and Child Nutrition (M/F/x)

in Munich


Your tasks and responsibilities:


  • Lead market data collection in close exchange with the project lead
  • Conduct data synthesis and analysis using descriptive statistics with statistical software
  • Draft scientific content and support publication of results in a peerreviewed journal. Support the preparation of funding proposals for scientific projects on maternal and child health
  • Support other original research studies with a focus on infant and young child feeding, especially breastfeeding and the commercial determinants of health
  • Support adhoc administrative tasks.

Your qualifications:


  • Interest in Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition, infant and young child feeding
  • Enrolment in a Master programme in the field of health sciences, public health, nutrition, epidemiology, psychology, social sciences, political sciences, economics or a related field.
  • Prior experience with scientific work, market surveys, theoretical or practical experience with quantitative or qualitative methods is an advantage
  • Prior experience or training in programming using statistical software is a strong advantage
  • Very good knowledge of English and German (written and oral)
  • Very good scientific writing skills
  • Good knowledge of MS Office, especially Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with Endnote or other bibliographic (reference management) software is advantageous
  • Independent working style and flexibility
  • Interest in interdisciplinary collaboration in an international team.

The salary range corresponds to the payment of student research assistants at the LMU Munich. The position is initially limited to six months with option for further extension. Pending approval of funding, the scope of the position will be remunerated for eight hours per week.
