Institute of Sociology invites


Chair (W2) of Sociology of Global Cultures
**and Qualitative Social Research

to be filled as soon as possible**.

You (M/F/x) will represent the fields of Sociology of Global Cultures and qualitative Social Research in
a broad range in teaching and research. The field of Global Cultures can have either a comparative
focus on one or more regions beyond Europe or a focus on global vs. trans-local cultural relations,
e.g., migration, mediation, social movements and conflicts, cultural hybridization, de
- or post
- colonialism. The other focus of the chair lies on qualitative social science research methods, preferably
ethnographic methods. Your teaching responsibility comprises lectures and seminars within the
bachelor and master degree programs of Sociology, the bachelor program Arts, Humanities and Social
Sciences, degree programs in teacher education as well as, if applicable, in other degree programs of
the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. You should have the interest in the development of new
profile areas such as democracy research, epistemological foundations of scientific research and
disruptive change. We expect the active acquisition of third-party funds and the active collaboration
with other organizational units of TUD. Your willingness and ability to conduct lectures in English and
German as well as active participation in the academic self-administration are required.

You should have a substantial international reputation with significant contributions to at least one of
the fields of the denominated areas as well as a record of substantial publications in at least an
additional field. We expect you to have a thorough understanding of a broad range of qualitative
methods and a particular emphasis on the quality criteria of qualitative social research. We require
experiences in the acquisition and direction of research projects funded by third parties. Significant
contributions to the ethnographic research methods as well as an understanding of and openness to
the quantitative methods are desirable. We place great emphasis on the relevant and perennial
teaching experiences and the promotion of young scientists. Your research is expected to be
connectable to TUD's research priority area "Culture and Societal Change"._ _In addition to the general
requirements, applicants must fulfil the employment qualification requirements of - 59 of the Act on
Higher Education Institutions in the Free State of Saxony (SächsHSG).
