About the team/job

EMBL is Europe's life sciences laboratory - an intergovernmental organisation with more than 110 independent research groups and service teams covering the spectrum of molecular biology.

It operates across six sites in Heidelberg (headquarters), Barcelona, Cambridge, Grenoble, Hamburg and Rome.

Our mission is to perform basic research in molecular biology; train scientists, students and visitors at all levels; offer vital services to scientists in the public and private sectors within the member states; develop new instruments and methods; and engage actively in technology transfer.

The research group of Alba Diz Muñoz at the Cell Biology and Biophysics Unit of EMBL Heidelberg is seeking a Research Technician (possibly for a part-time arrangement) for help with day-to-day lab organisation and assistance with routine lab tasks, with the possibility to participate in more advance cell and biophysical measurements.

Our international and enthusiastic team performs high quality research in the areas of cell biology, biophysics and medicine with a particular interest in the role of mechanics at the interface between the cell and its surroundings.

Your role

  • Management of general lab resources
  • Assistance of lab members with cell culture work
  • Routine genetic engineering (e.g. restriction cloning, gibson assembly)
  • Management and care of lab stocks and databases
  • Coorganize scientific and teaching events such as small workshops, courses and conferences
  • The position could also include generation of stable cell lines and involvement in more advance lab techniques such as state of the art life imaging, protein micropatterning or atomic force microscopy

You have

  • A completed training as lab technician with several years of work experience or a university degree with additional lab experience or a PhD in life sciences or biophysics.
  • Experience in cell biology, biophysics and life imaging are an advantage.
  • Former qualifications and/or work experience in lab management are an advantage
  • Excellent skills in organisation, documentation and reporting and ability to work proactively across a broad range of functions in a dynamic, international and interdisciplinary environment
  • Good interpersonal skills and solid written and spoken English. German language skills are not essential.

The position will be 3rd party funded and is initially set up for the duration of 2 years.
