The Clinic for Anesthesiology and Intensive Care (Direction: Prof. Dr.

Bettina Jungwirth) at Ulm University Medical Center is looking for a highly motivated- PhD student (65%)- The University Hospital Ulm and its employees stands for a modern and high quality patient care, excellent university research and medical education focused on the future as well as apprenticeships in attractive professional fields.

The requirements for this are qualified and committed employees.- To investigate the effects of trauma (traumatic brain injury, hemorrhagic shock and blunt chest trauma), resuscitation and intensive care therapy (mouse intensive care unit, extra-corporal membrane oxygenation) on the brain in various translationally relevant rodent models.

The focus will be on the H2S- and oxytocin systems and the role of the mitochondria.

The work will partially be conducted at the Institute for Anesthesiological Pathophysiology and Process Engineering and the Clinic for Anesthesiology and Intensive Care at Ulm University Medical Center.


  • Your tasks:
  • Processing of organ samples for further investigation
  • Immunohistochemistry
  • Investigation of mitochondrial function
  • Summarizing your results in writing and oral presentations

Your skills and qualifications:

  • A master's degree in a relevant field of study (Molecular Medicine, (Molecular and Translational) Neuroscience, Biochemistry or similar)
  • Basic laboratory skills (laboratory safety, pipetting)
  • A high degree of motivation, enthusiasm, efficiency and critical thinking
  • Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English
  • Knowledge of German is a plus
  • Capability of working in a team as well as independently
  • Contract: limited
  • Level of employment: parttime
