We, the BMW Group, offer you an interesting and varied Ph.
D.

program in Generative Artificial Intelligence for sensor data simulation and scene continuation to support development and evaluation of closed-loop end-to-end automated driving.

Mitigating the difficulty of collecting rare driving scenes and safety risks of testing real world scenarios are main motivations for this work.

The focus is on simulating multimodal sensor data and their continuation for closed-loop driving scenarios, together with the aspects of minimizing the realism gap and validating the results by structural similarity.

What awaits you?

Research on stateoftheart Machine Learning methods in generative AI and endtoend models in automated driving.
Design of network topologies of world models to learn understanding of scenes and predicting accurate sensor inputs.
Benchmarking of the generated models on publicly available research datasets as well as on a largescale, multimodal BMW proprietary dataset.
Chance to cooperate with research in endtoend automated driving models.
Working in an experienced team of software developers and machine learning engineers at the BMW Campus in Garching.

What should you bring along?

You have successfully completed a master's degree in computer science, machine learning / artificial intelligence, or in a related field.
You have a strong background in machine learning, computer vision, low level sensor fusion, and/or explainable models. Previous publications in top conferences are a plus.
You have very good programming skills in PyTorch / TensorFlow, and you worked with modern programming environment tools such as Docker and Git.
You can solve problems independently while sharing ideas and working in a team.
You have very good English and communication skills. Knowledge of German is a plus.
