Main tasks:
***Atrial fibrillation affects at least 2% of the population in Germany and early diagnosis and rhythm control therapy can prevent cardiovascular death.

Our group is interested in the genetic and molecular pathomechanisms underlying atrial fibrillation.

We are recruiting a PhD student for a 3-year DFG-funded PhD project (65% E13) available starting as soon as possible.

The project will work on the impact of common gene variants in the enhancer region of the transcription factor PITX2 that are causative of atrial fibrillation in patients.

The project involves experiments in human-induced pluripotent stem cell-derived atrial cardiomyocytes cells cultured in engineered heart tissue format and in a relevant animal model.

Your Profile:

***- University degree
in the field of Biology, Biochemistry or Molecular Life Sciences or related disciplines in natural sciences

Highly motivation and interest in science and cardiovascular research in special,
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and German
Willingness to publish and present the work at scientific conferences, workshops and meetings
Ability to work independently and responsibly and quickly familiarize yourself with new content
