We are looking for a
Statistical Methodology Lead who is innovative, committed and creative to join us in our
Centre of Excellence for Statistical Innovation, based in our offices in
Monheim, Germany or Brussels, Belgium.


About the role


You will serve as an influential statistical researcher, consultant and technical leader across all statistical groups and therapy areas, possessing outstanding expertise in at least one area of statistical methodology, with a focus on clinical trials and development projects.

The Statistical Methodology Lead will be responsible for developing, adopting and enabling of creative statistical design and methodology solutions that address strategic needs across clinical therapy areas and development projects.


Who you'll work with


You will interface effectively across a key section of the value chain, including early and late phase clinical statistics and advanced analytics.

Working closely with statisticians who directly support clinical projects and studies, you will raise the state of the art of the Biometrics and Quantitative Sciences department.


What you'll do

  • Lead the research, development, assessment and introduction of new statistical methodology for clinical development.
  • Conduct or supervise advanced statistical analyses and simulations to address complex quantitative problems across therapy areas.
  • Provide training to UCB employees from different disciplines on advanced statistical concepts.
  • Communicate complex issues and solutions in nontechnical language, e.g. using visualizations and other illustrative techniques.
  • Lead crossfunctional or multidisciplinary groups and use technical expertise to proactively influence business and portfolio decisions.
  • Review and approve abstracts, posters, presentations, and manuscripts for publication and ensure accuracy of all biostatistical aspects of such documents.

Interested? For this role we're looking for the following education, experience and skills

  • PhD in statistics or comparable scientific domain
  • 5+ years professional experience in biostatistics in the biotechnology and/or pharmaceutical industry (including CROs) with a proven track record in pharmaceutical development and statistical methodology.
  • Sound knowledge of ICH and other relevant guidelines (eg, EMA, FDA and PMDA). Understanding of the regulatory requirements and policies from the main health authorities.
  • Strong experience with advanced statistical methodologies and simulation techniques in the pharmaceutical development context
  • Sound knowledge of SAS and/or R programming.
  • Outstanding communication and visualization skills
  • Ability to travel both domestically and internationally as business necessitates.
