A Snapshot of Your Day

Green hydrogen and its derivatives are envisaged to play a major role in decarbonizing various sectors in industry, mobility, buildings, and others.

To increase the worldwide green hydrogen production, large electrolyzer plants up into the gigawatt range must be developed.

In this context you will be working closely with our electrical engineering team within the Sustainable Energy Systems (SES) department in Erlangen, Germany, to develop, analyze and evaluate grid configurations and power electronic converter systems suitable to connect future high power electrolyzer plants to the electricity grid.

The tasks range from the conceptual development of connection schemes including simulations to the test device setup to proof-of-concept tests.

In addition, you will work in closely related research and development projects, with focus on control aspects.
Describe in a short, transparent paragraph what a day in the life of this role might look like.

How You'll Make an Impact

  • Assumption of an important role in the development team of the Siemens hydrogen production plants
  • Development of innovative, competitive and reliable solutions for the electrolyzer converter systems in the MWarea, including selfcontained calculation and design form rectifiers, transformers, switchgear, cooling systems as well as filter equipment
  • Concept development for the coupling of electrolysis systems with other converterbased system, such as photovoltaic plants, wind turbines or battery storage systems
  • Use of practical experience to build up test facilities for qualifying the developed solutions
  • Adopt technology scouting for trends in converter technology to generate innovative ideas for future electrolysis plants

What You Bring

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, with focus on power engineering or power electronics
  • Longtime experience in design and simulation of different converter topologies including coupling to public power grid
  • Sound knowledge and experience in the areas electrical power distribution, power electronics and special expertise in DCtechnology with doubledigit kA currents
  • Wide knowledge of relevant global standards, regulations, and guidelines
  • Ideally experience within the area of converter control systems
  • Fluent in English, German is a plus
  • Willingness and pleasure to develop joint innovative solutions in interdisciplinary teams
