Actuarial Data Scientist Intern (M/F/d)

Company
Munich Re

Location
Munich, Germany

Munich Re Markets focuses on reinsurance of savings and retirements products, which transfer actuarial risks and financial guarantees to the reinsurer.

For this purpose, the Modelling group designs and maintains a library of advanced actuarial and financial mathematical models, as well as an extensive collection of biometric portfolio data.

The book's valuation is administered throughout the contract lifecycle, requiring efficient and adequate simulation of several market risk factors (interest rates, equity indices, volatility, etc.) for a large number of policies.

With all members possessing strong academic background in mathematics, physics, or computer science, the modelling group maintains a near perfect equilibrium between production and research.

This student position offers you the possibility to learn and train hands on data scrubbing and modelling real world data whilst gradually understanding the re-insurance business and it's similarities to problems in engineering and science.

You will also learn condensing your insights into reports and presentations.

We are offering freedom and knowledge similarly to academia, therefore, we are searching for an independent, autodidactic and curios individual.

Your Job

  • Perform explorative data analysis on policy data for variable annuities and similar products, including the examination of respective reinsurance treaties and product descriptions.
  • Model biometric risks and policyholder behaviour, including mortality, morbidity, lapse and persistency using statistics and stochastics based on research literature.
  • Provide valuable insight into actuarial data by implementing interactive actuarial valuation reports in R Markdown using ggplot, plotly and similar tools.
  • Perform data management tasks using R (using dplyr, dbplyr) and SQL within our established framework. Furthermore, design and implement efficient stored procedures in SQL to streamline data preparation, transformation and analysis processes.
  • Conduct programmatic testing of reinsurance settlements using R and SQL, ensuring the accuracy and consistency of calculations through automated scripts and data validation.

Your Profile

  • Studies in computer science, mathematics, physics, engineering or statistics
  • Basic knowledge of SQL and an understanding of relational databases
  • Intrinsic motivation to program with experience in e.g. R, python, Julia, MATLAB, java
  • Experience with LaTeX, RMarkdown, jupyter notebooks or similar.
  • Integrated software development, for example gitlab, git, svn
  • Excellent analytical skills and high degree of motivation
  • Fluent in spoken and written English and/or German
Students from countries outside the EU require a German residence-/work permit.
