Duties:


  • Utilize complex rehabilitation principles to conduct comprehensive substance abuse evaluations of eligible patients referred for consultation
  • Conducts evaluations of Soldiers, family members, retirees, and eligible Federal civilian employees referred for consultation.
  • Make clinical assessments to inform treatment decision ?making; advises commanders, supervisors, and/or referring providers as to patient's status, treatment needs,.
  • Assesses primary/secondary problems to include behavioral health diagnosing.
  • Integrates information in clear/concise manner in order to formulate accurate diagnostic impressions consistent with established criteria to meet Joint Commission standards.
  • Collects data to evaluate treatment outcomes.
  • Develops therapeutic relationship with patients whose substance abuse and/or emotional problems vary in degrees of resistance to treatment, and in ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Conditions of Employment:


  • One year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • This position requires a MAJCOM REQ DRUG TEST OF INCUMBENT (TIER TWO).
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • Applicants must comply with the Exceptional Family Member Program requirements as outlined in the DoD Instruction
  • This position requires a preemployment medical exam.
  • This position requires heavy lifting up to 20 lbs.
  • This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
  • This position requires a valid unexpired driver's license.
  • This position requires you to obtain and maintain a passport.

_Basic Requirements for Social Worker (Substance Abuse):_

Degree:

Master's degree (or higher degree) in Social Work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:


Experience required:
To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job


Specialized experience is defined as:

- in a Social Worker Substance Abuse environment, which includes: 1) conducting clinical assessments of substance abuse patients; 2) formulating behavioral health treatment plans; and 3) providing professional counseling to substance abuse patients. _


This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).


  • Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Licensure:

A current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Social Work independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction is required.

Time in Grade Requirement:

Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).

Additional information:


  • Direct deposit of pay is required.
  • U.S. citizens overseas under ordinarily resident status are not eligible for appointment under the Status of Forces Agreement.
  • If an employee brings a child to an overseas location and that child is entitled to attend a DoD school on a spacerequired basis in accordance with DoDEA Regulation , the DoDEA and the Military Department responsible for providing related services will ensure that the child, if eligible for special education, receives a free appropriate public education, including related services pursuant to DoDI and DoDM
  • If an employee brings an infant or toddler (up to 3 years of age) to an overseas location, and that infant or toddler, but for the child's age, is entitled to attend the DoDEA on a spacerequired basi
