The
Pharmacological Institute of the
Medical Faculty of the
University of Heidelberg has a vacancy for a PostDoc.

In the department of Prof. Marc Freichel, Ca2+ signaling pathways in cellular and integrative organ functions are studied.

The main interest is in TRP and Ca2+ channels in the plasma membrane and in acidic organelles such as endo-lysosomes and their role in Ca2+-dependent signaling and gene programs with a focus on cells of the cardiovascular system (cardiomyocytes, cardiac fibroblasts, macrophages, platelets, chromaffin cells) and the processes regulated by them such as contractility and metabolism, secretion of neurotransmitters and activation of the autonomic nervous system.

In mast cells, Ca2+-dependent signaling pathways and gene programs for the generation and release of inflammatory mediators are being investigated.

The relevance of these processes is investigated in cardiac diseases such as maladaptive remodeling and in the development of diabetes mellitus-associated long-term sequelae within several research consortia (German Center for Cardiovascular Diseases DZHK, TR-SFB 152, SFB 1328, SFB 1550).

  • The laboratory has many years of experience with transgenic approaches including genome editing (CRISPR/Cas9, base und prime editing), in cell (ES, iPS) and animal models as well as AAV vector technologies used in the generation of disease models and for the identification of new drug targets as well as in the validation of small molecule compounds.
