We are searching a qualified and experienced lawyer for the Morgan Stanley EMEA Legal Division with sales and trading expertise to act as an advisor in Frankfurt, particularly supporting the Fixed Income Division.

What will you be doing?

  • Providing legal and regulatory advice to the Fixed Income Sales & Trading Division on OTC derivative transactions, structured note issuances (including Schuldschein / NSV), repacking transactions, securities lending and other structured products and other related services.
  • Providing advice on a variety of transaction documents, including ISDAs, DRVs and other master agreements, confirmations, terms of business, electronic trading agreements and nondisclosure agreements as well as developing template documents.
  • Providing advice on new products, including advising on and assisting with access to new venues and registrations to trade in existing or new markets.
  • Working closely with EMEA Regulatory Affairs lawyers to identify and assess new German and EU regulatory initiatives that are impactful to FID in Europe, including regulatory initiatives relating to margin, netting & collateral, market structure, transparency and investor protection issues.
  • Providing legal coverage in relation to any advocacy efforts as well as business unit driven implementation regulatory projects, including on interpretation issues or interactions with regulators.

What we're looking for:


  • Relevant and several years of experience (6+ years) in a major law firm and/or inhouse at a sellside or buyside financial institution
  • Professional maturity, confidence, presence, and initiative
  • Strong written and organizational skills and an aptitude for risk and controls
  • German law qualified lawyer essential
  • Fluent in English and German

Skills that will help you in the role:

  • Prior experience of working in a sales and trading environment
  • Strong knowledge of ISDA, DRVs and other master agreements
  • Good working knowledge of key EU and/or German law and regulations applicable to Sales and Trading

They might help to structure a complex and sensitive cross-border transaction; advise on a new product introduction; develop a training program or defuse an investor dispute.

They preserve the Firm's invaluable reputation for integrity and protect the Firm from sanctions with policies and procedures that meet regulatory requirements around the world.

They also strive to maintain cooperative relationships with governmental policy makers and the regulatory and self-regulatory agencies that govern the Firm's businesses.
