Fully Funded PhD Position (up to 4 years; 75%) in Additive Manufactured Metal-Organic Framework based 3D Electrodes for Energy Applications:
Supercapacitors (SCs) have attracted great attention to solve global energy storage problems.

An ideal SC should bridge the gap between a capacitor and a battery by offering enormous power density, high energy density, fast charging/discharging capabilities, and outstanding lifespan.

Conventional carbon based SCs suffer from poor energy density due to the absence of redox activity, inaccessible active sites, restricted electrode design, therefore low mass loading and inefficient mass/charge transport.

These limitations hinder their applicability as a source of continuous and stable power supply.

This two-fold problem of electrode materials and electrode architecture should be solved within a single system to obtain high-performance SCs.

This PhD project is to synthesize tailored metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) to develop stereolithographically 3D printed (MOF derived) metal oxide/carbon composite electrodes.

Bridging two key aspects of electrode material and electrode architecture, this scientific strategy will combine distinct fields of organometallic and coordination chemistry and additive manufacturing (AM).

As a doctoral researcher (DR), you will have the following tasks:

- synthesize strategically selected transition-metal based MOFs followed by thermal derivation of (multi)metal oxi-des/carbon composites from these MOFs.

  • Indepth characterization, and assessment of SC performance of derived (multi)metal oxides/carbon composite electrodes.

The optimized materials will be hybridized with photo-resins and our collaboration partners at Technical University of Denmark (DTU) will additive manufacture (3D print) these MOF/polymer composite free-standing electrodes.

A-long with the great opportunities of attending relevant international conferences, there will be a mandatory 3-month research stay at DTU in partner lab.

Requirements:

  • Master of Science in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics or relevant discipline

We offer

  • Grouping according to the collective agreement of the federal states (TV-L)
  • Temporary scientific appointment of up to 4 years; 75%
  • Work in a multidisciplinary international research team
The university aims to increase the proportion of women. Qualified women are therefore strongly encouraged to apply.

The position is suitable for severely disabled persons. Severely disabled applicants will be given preference if their suitability, qualifications and professional performance are essentially equal. Application.

We look forward to receiving your informative documents.
