The project
The project in the field "Science of Science" investigates how different forms of competition

shape the behaviour of researchers and ultimately influence the nature of research,

collaboration and research progress. It is part of the DFG Research Unit (FOR 5234) "Multiple

Competition in Higher Education", which consists of members from numerous universities and

research institutions. Within the framework of the interdisciplinary network (economics,

business administration and sociology), coordinated support is provided for early career

researchers, offering attractive conditions for your doctoral studies.


Person specification

  • You are highly motivated and have a university master's degree with excellent grades
in economics or a field relevant to our research (e.g. computer science, information

systems, statistics or sociology).***- You have very good analytical skills and a keen interest in questions related to the

"Science of Science".***- You are willing to tackle complex real-world problems with analytical methods and to

learn or perfect new research methods. Prior experience with empirical-quantitative

research methods would be advantageous.***- Ability to work in a team, open-mindedness, and the motivation to work on a research

project independently and conscientiously.

  • Must be willing to conduct interdisciplinary research as a member of the DFG Research
Unit "Multiple Competition in Higher Education".

  • Willingness to proactively participate in the development of ambitious quantitative
empirical research projects and to publish in leading academic journals.

  • Excellent spoken and written English language skills.**
  • Knowledge of German would be advantageous but is not a requirement.***
