Our Profile:


As part of the publicly funded research project Pro2MUSS, the Institute of Mechanism Theory, Machine Dynamics and Robotics is working with the ISF to investigate systems and concepts for monitoring the ultrasonic metal welding process.

As an established welding process for the production of electrical components, it is primarily used for aluminum and copper materials.

Common components are power semiconductors for vehicles and wind turbines, battery cells or battery packs or components of the vehicle electrical system.

The ISF has an ultrasonic welding system equipped with various sensors to monitor the process. A new test setup was implemented in this system to investigate methods for process monitoring.

To this end, machine learning models are to be used to help predict the joining quality and increase process understanding.


Your Profile:


  • Interest in the field of machine learning
  • Knowledge of Python and Matlab desirable
  • Independent and structured way of working
  • Current studies in the field of engineering at a university or university of applied sciences

Your Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Familiarization with the existing methodology
  • Support in data preparation and in the development of machine learning models

What We Offer:


The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date and offered for a fixed term of 1 year.

This is a part-time contract position.
The standard weekly hours will be 6-10 hours.
The salary is based on the RWTH Guidelines for Student and Graduate Assistants.
The position corresponds to a pay grade of 13,25 € per hour.
