Preferred Qualifications
The international team covers all aspects of product development, from design, implementation and testing to sustaining.

The System Administrator will in the primary job role look after the data center/server farm used by the VirtualBox team, and the desktops and laptops used for testing.

The tasks will cover hardware installation, configuration, repair, budgeting, ordering and decommissioning. This includes software aspects like operating system install and maintenance, dealing with Linux, Windows, macOS and Solaris. Software licensing planning and purchasing are playing a role, too. Network and storage administration are added as the skills develop. Finally it covers Quality Engineering responsibilities, i.e.

helping with the automated product testing, from planning how to maximize the hardware/operating system testing coverage of the VirtualBox product over test script and test case improvements to analyzing failure patterns.

The overall goal is to maximize the product improvement feedback from testing into the engineering team by minimizing the hardware and software downtime and optimizing the testcase coverage.

It offers many challenges and skill growth opportunities, e.g. later helping with triaging problem reports into "needs developer attention" and other categories.

Motivation to learn new skills both in interaction with the team and independently, covering more and more of the above responsibilities
Diligent, structured working style, turning system install into a predictable and reproducible exercise
Knowledge of scripting languages (shell scripts, Python)
Ability to work both independently and as a team member in an efficient manner
Document maintenance procedures and current state of a very complex system consisting of many different components
Good communication skills, both written and verbal
Good English skills, both written and verbal.

The following would be an advantage:

1-2 years of working experience as a system administrator
Experience with as many operating systems as possible, especially system administration, but user experience is also useful
Development skills, e.g. experience with C/C++/Java
Detail knowledge of operating system internals.

Detailed Description and Job Requirements
Perform performance trend analysis and manage the server/network capacity. Propose client configuration and implement technical solutions to enhance and/or troubleshoot the system. Work with others to define, coordinate vendor purchase needs. Responsible for support documentation as well.

Job duties are varied and complex utilizing independent judgment. May have project lead role. 5 years of related experience in a medium to large network distributed and computing environment. BS in Computer Science or related field.
