  • The Center for Cognitive Interaction Technology (CITEC) offers a PhD position in the area of sensor fusion for autonomous systems. The position is rooted in the CoR-Lab. The PhD project should explore new methods in sensor fusion, humanmotionprediction, and intention recognition. As the overall goal, a monitoring system for the boarding and deboarding of an autonomous train will be developed. The focus lies on strategies for the recognition of blocking situations as well as the prediction of movement goals in public boarding/deboarding situations. He or she will be part of a highly interactive research environment at the CITEC, CoR-Lab, and it's OWL.
  • Your Tasks
  • Research tasks (100 %):
- development and implementation of a monitoring system for the boarding and deboarding situation at autonomous trains
- development and implementation of methods for sensor fusion of distributed sensor environments (stereo cameras, LIDAR, Radar, etc.)
- development of techniques for human motion prediction and intention recognition of humans and human groups
- conducting studies for data recording and the evaluation of monitoring systems
- publication of project results and presentation of them at scientific conferences
- collaborating with project partners and other research groups at CITEC and CoR-Lab

We expect
- relevant completed or nearly completed scientific university degree (Master or equivalent) in informatics/computer science or related studies
- aspiration and ability to do a doctorate
- deep knowledge in computer vision, sensor fusion, intelligent autonomous systems
- advanced programming skills in C++, Java, Python for Linux
- experiences with sensor networks and middleware (e. g. ROS/ROS2)
- excellent command of scientific English, written and oral
- independent, self-reliant and dedicated style of work
- ability to work cooperatively in a team
- excellent communication and presentation skills

  • Preferred experience and skills
- advanced skills in German language (written and oral)
- experiences with the recording of training data and conducting of evaluation studies
