The Welfare and Self-Reliance Department strives to follow Jesus Christ by embracing the two great commandments to love God and love our neighbors as it ministers to temporal needs, builds temporal self-reliance, and blesses both givers and receivers.

The Family Services Division provides resources to alleviate emotional suffering, maintain human dignity, and instill hope by assisting leaders to help members develop emotional self-reliance, and overcome obstacles to making and keeping sacred covenants.

Ideally, the positions are located at the area office in Frankfurt, Germany, however, being stationed elsewhere within the Europe Central Area may be discussed.


Missionary Specialist

  • Serves as the liaison to the Missionary Department by managing and carrying out premission assessments.
  • Ensures proper emotional support to infield and returned missionaries.
  • Interacts directly with prospective missionaries, parents, and leaders.

Content Specialist

  • Develops and maintains a strong network of external providers.
  • Enhances and ensures the quality of the ecclesiastical consultations.
  • Establishes and ensures quality standards for external professionals.

Sensitive Cases Specialist

  • Coordinates psychosocial support efforts.
  • Supervises emotional health programs e.g. Healing from sexual abuse.
  • Serves as the point as contact for sensitive cases.
  • Strong commitment to the mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints (applicant must be a member with a valid Temple recommend).
  • Masters' degree (preferred) in social work, social education, marriage and family therapy, counselling, psychology, or related degree that leads to a professional license and at least 5 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent communicator: writing, speaking, and developing and delivering presentations. Fluent in both spoken and written English is critical; other European (Central and East) language skills may be considered an advantage.
  • Interpersonal skills working with local Church leaders, senior executives, beneficiaries, and volunteers.
  • Ability to handle confidential issues with sensitivity.
  • Creativity, critical thinking, and problemsolving skills.
  • Ability to be supportive and to motivate others.
  • Strong aptitude to work in a collaborative setting on multiple projects or programs.
  • Ability to work hours in a flexible way, including evenings and weekends to meet the needs of the service when needed.
  • Occasional overnight travel to outlying areas as needed.
