What You Will Do:
The Technical Architect will report to the Global Head of Architecture, responsible for supporting the Global R&D department.


The role will work on feature or product designs within their product team which may include one or more products, also assisting in troubleshooting engineering challenges during the development cycle.

They will work closely with the Principal or Chief Architect to ensure architectural alignment across various products as well as ensuring any architectural blueprints are adopted as part of the design cycle.

On the same token, in terms of product delivery they will work alongside engineering and development counterparts to ensure requirements are met.

This role will encompass not only software development, but also platform and infrastructure services as part of their design work as appropriate.

This will include liaising with internal and external stakeholders and how they work together.

A crucial part of the role is to align within the Architecture team by:

  • Participating in the Architecture Review Board to ensure any proposed designs are discussed to ensure due diligence and impact assessments are performed.
  • Suggesting potential architectural improvements to current products, working with architecture function and engineering.
  • Ensuring alignment of design work with the Principal Architect or the Chief Architect, working with them to ensure your design components fit within the overall architecture strategy.
  • Working with other architects from other teams to share knowledge and reuse design components wherever possible.
  • Suggesting proof of concepts for new ideas which may contribute to ongoing roadmap activities within the architecture team.

Additionally, this person will be responsible for:

Design and delivery within the Engineering product team:

  • Creating Functional and Non-Functional requirements for each design feature or product, from an architectural lens. Work with QA to incorporate FRs and NFRs into the quality strategy.
  • Creating high and low level designs for specific product(s), however not all designs will be created from the Technical Architect. Some may derive from software engineers with assistance from the TA.
  • Making informed decisions and taking ownership of project outcomes, owning architecture components.
  • Engaging in design and review processes as both an author and reviewer in conjunction with the Engineering Team and across multiple teams.
  • Assisting in troubleshooting customer production issues alongside engineering teams if required.
  • Establishing standards for nonfunctional outcomes incorporating scale, security, deployment and operability considerations.
  • Ensuring relevant documentation is produced and accessible.
  • Highlighting any design challenges to Engineering Directors regarding products, and feedback to the Architecture team if challenges impact overall architectural strategy such as deviations or exceptions.

Teamwork and collaboration:

  • Actively engaging in all quarterly release planning and preparation activities as appropriate.
  • Effectively communicating with product team in the domain and beyond into other teams that could be impacted by design decisions and activities.
  • Providing technical leadership to team domain members. The Technical Architect should be encouraged to mentor others in engineering teams on best design practices or methodologies.

Technology Expertise:

Experience in AWS architectures, such as:

  • IaaS (e.g. VPC, EC2, gateways, cloud native storage, ELB/NLB).
  • Experience or knowledge of Microsoft technologies such as Active Directory, SQL, Windows server.
