Recycling is a high-growth area for the future, fitting perfectly with the broader trend towards a circular, low-carbon economy. In Hydro, Recycling is one of the strategic growth pillars with ambitious targets in the use of post consumed scrap in our production. Business unit (BU) Recycling within Aluminium Metal operates twelve recycling plants and a scrap processing plant and is currently growing.

Who we are looking for:


To deliver on the ambitious recycling strategy we are looking to strengthen our team with a Raw Material and Scrap Purchaser (M/F/d).

In this position you will impact our strategy directly as sorting and sourcing of mixed scrap is a pre-requisite for Hydro to deliver on our ambitious sustainability and profitability strategy.


Challenges that will make you further grow:

  • Manage and grow aluminum scrap and raw material sourcing to relevant plants in Europe with special focus on sourcing in western Germany for our sorting plant in Dormagen.
  • Manage, handle, and grow sales of sorted products generated in our sorting plant in Dormagen.
  • Identify, target, and build good relations with new scrap suppliers and customers.
  • Drive qualification and usage of new scrap types at relevant plants.
  • Lead and manage contract negotiation and order administration of scrap and raw material purchases and sales.
  • Planning and coordination of raw material deliveries to relevant plants.
  • Record and report on supplier performance.
  • Followup and report purchased and sold volumes and price levels monthly.
  • Collect and provide scrap market intelligence and establish volume and price forecasts.
  • Pricing and hedging of purchase and sales orders.
  • Develop strategic scrap sourcing plan for the region and participate in business planning.
  • Handling of claims and complaints with suppliers and customers.
  • Participate and contribute to business unit scrap buyers team meetings.
  • High willingness to travel

Qualifications that will help you get ahead:

  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline such as Business, Supply Chain or Logistics
  • Minimum 35year commercial experience
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal in German and English
  • Commercial mindset
  • Selfmotivated and independent
  • Strong negotiation skills, analytical and problemsolving skills
  • Systematic in resolving issues
  • Excellent team and interpersonal skills with both internal and external parties
  • Customer/Supplier Focus
