Your team

  • You will be part of the Directorate Digital Euro in the Directorate General Market Infrastructure and Payments, which started work on the digital euro preparation phase in November 2023. This phase focuses on further preparing for the development of a digital euro, building on the findings from the investigation phase.
We are looking to fill expert positions in the Stakeholder Management team within the Digital Euro Strategy unit.

The team is responsible for developing and implementing the engagement strategy towards external stakeholders in the digital euro project, including market participants, such as banks and other financial institutions, consumers and merchants; EU institutions and policymakers; and the international central banking community.

The team works in close collaboration with the Digital Euro Product Proposition team, which is responsible for defining the digital euro proposition for consumers, merchants and intermediaries.

Your role

  • As a Market Infrastructure Expert, you will:
  • coordinate and prepare the interactions of the project team and senior ECB representatives with market participants and provide the secretariat for digital euro market stakeholder groups;
- contribute to the team's work in developing and advancing strategic ideas and messages on digital euro for market participants and other external stakeholders, collaborating closely with the Digital Euro Product Proposition team and other teams in the Directorate;
- support and represent the Digital Euro Project team at various internal and external meetings (including those held with industry representatives);
- contribute to the team's other tasks.

The position offers you excellent opportunities to help shape the future of central bank money for all citizens and firms in the euro area and, in so doing, support the digitalisation of the euro area economy.

You will be part of a multicultural team that strives for continuous innovation to make a positive impact on the lives of European citizens.

Qualifications, experience and skills

  • Essential:
- a master's degree or equivalent in business administration, economics, international relations, political science, project management, finance or another relevant field (see How you can join us for details on degree equivalences);
- in addition to the above, a minimum of 3 years' professional experience (other than as a trainee or intern) in retail payments or other retail financial services;
- proven analytical skills and experience in coordinating and drafting concise and clear notes and presentations, including for high-level audiences;
- proven experience in building relationships with multiple stakeholders and developing tailored messages addressed to diverse stakeholder groups;
- an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Desired:
- sound knowledge of the EU retail payments landscape and relevant European stakeholder associations and their views and positions on a digital euro;
- experience in preparing and coordinating market stakeholder groups;
- experience in EU policymaking, for instance through professional experience gained at a European institution or in EU regulatory affairs.

You engage collaboratively with others. You pursue team goals and learn willingly from other people's diverse perspectives. You signal any need for change by explaining it and proposing alternative solutions. You analyse complex information effectively and can evaluate different views to arrive at solutions. You know and anticipate stakeholder needs.

You are motivated to contribute to the ECB's mission, to serve the citizens of the EU as a member of a public institution and to work with colleagues from all over Europe.
