We offer you an exciting opportunity for your Bachelor Thesis in the ART Road & Tire Condition in the Chassis department.

For different customer functions the knowledge of the upcoming road profile can help to increase ride comfort, to provide new customer features or to improve efficiency.

This information gathered by the vehicle fleet is aggregated in a digital map in the backend and can be provided to the customer vehicle as a predictive digital horizon.

The focus of the present thesis is to develop an algorithm to evaluate the road profile in vehicles using the basic sensor set, which is present in all VW group vehicles.

In the field of science there are different approaches to estimate the road profile and obstacles using different sets of chassis accelerations sensors.

The question raises how the varying data from different sensor sets might be merged.


WHAT YOU WILL DO:


  • Research question: How can Reduced/Basic Sensor Sets be used to estimate the road profile?
  • Literature research
  • Detection of road profile with different sensor sets
  • Characteristic values for the road state/profile
  • Implementation of different approaches for the calculation of the road profile or characteristic values from different sensor sets (Python/Matlab)
  • Evaluation:
  • Collection of vehicle measurements
  • Elaboration of the influence of longitudinal acceleration
  • Comparison of the different selected values
  • Documentation and presentation of the results

WHO YOU ARE:


  • Enrolled student in the field of Mechatronics, Cybernetics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or comparable
  • Knowledge and interest in the field of vehicle dynamics
  • Basic Programming skills in Python, Matlab or other languages desirable
  • Interest in learning new skills
  • Knowledge of automotive engineering is a plus
  • Teamminded, growth mindset, goaloriented, and communicative
