The specific research goals are energy-efficient components for power electronics, display technology, solid-state lighting, optoelectronics and organic / hybrid photovoltaics.

CST is participating as a partner in the International Research Training Group
2D-Mature funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and organized by the University-Duisburg Essen (UDE) and the University of Waterloo.

This Research Training Group is offering a structured education and research program to qualified students, and consists of dedicated research projects and associated training activities.

In addition, a stay at the partner University is planned.

The program includes:
- opportunity to conduct high-level, interdisciplinary research in a stimulating environment
