The German Cancer Research Center is looking for a bioinformatician for the National Center for Tumor Diseases Berlin to start as soon as possible.


One of the six NCT locations is the NCT Berlin, which is implemented in cooperation with the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin at the Charité Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Berlin Institute of Health in the Charité (BIH), and the Max-Delbrück-Center for Molecular Medicine in the Helmholtz Association.


Job description:


  • Analysis of NGS data, especially WES and RNA sequencing in clinical studies
  • Analysis of study needs and translation of biomedical research questions into bioinformatics projects
  • Design, implementation, and deployment of omics data analysis workflows and results reporting, selecting and benchmarking methods and tools
  • Development of innovative approaches for the analysis and integration of omics data where existing methods are not adequate
  • Presentation of results, writing publications and grant proposals, guidance and support of PhD and Master students

Requirements:


  • Master's degree in bioinformatics, computer science, computational biology, or related disciplines, preferably with some years of postdegree work experience as a bioinformatician; a relevant PhD is an advantage
  • Sound experience in cancer genomics desired, good understanding of proteomics data is a strong plus
  • Demonstrated ability to perform reproducible data analysis needed, indepth understanding of the relevant processes and technologies like workflow and tool management, data provenance, and quality control required
  • A good understanding of multivariate statistics needed; experience with data visualization, data mining, and machine learning is highly appreciated
  • Excellent programming skills, Python or R, are required, Bash is a strong plus; demonstrated ability to produce welldesigned and documented code, proficiency in using Git is a plus
  • Proficiency working in a Linux environment needed; experience with HPC is a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English needed; knowledge of German is a plus
  • Team
- and goal-oriented, self-motivated work style is expected; practical experience working in interdisciplinary teams centered on a biomedical or clinical question is a strong plus
