This position is part of Novanta's World of Medicine (WOM) business unit.

Specialized in the field of Minimally Invasive Medicine, WOM develops devices and accessories so that doctors can operate with small cuts.

We produce Cameras, Insufflators, Medical Pumps, and tubing that makes diagnosis and treatment easier for everyone. Our insufflators and pump systems dilate cavities in the body and turn previously complicated surgeries into minor procedures. Summary

The Director Manufacturing Engineering develops and implements the manufacturing strategy with a clear focus on our disposables products:

  • Definition of Manufacturing Technology
  • Layout planning (overall responsibility for the entire layout of manufacturing plants).
  • Capex Planning and execution
  • Master Data (BOM, Work instructions etc.)
  • Make or Buy strategy (together with SCM)
  • Roll out at potential new sites
  • Participating and representing MIS in global footprint planning
  • Planning and execution of relocation projects (within Novanta / MIS)
Primary Responsibilities

  • Manufacturing Engineering Strategy

Manufacturing Technology:

  • Defines level of automation
  • Develops standards of equipment, work instructions (Standard work) and processes
  • Develops or adapts new Manufacturing Technologies (together with R&D), including the use of Industry 4.0
  • Drives Design for Manufacturing (together with R&D)

Continuous Improvement:

  • Drives savings based on Process (Automation, Rationalization) and Continuous Improvements (Lean)
  • Drives implementation and development of NGS

Maintenance / Facility:

  • Develops and implements Maintenance concepts (like TPM)
  • Reduces Maintenance Cost vs Capex spend

Team Structure / Leadership functions:

  • Functional and disciplinary leadership of his team
  • Develops Succession Plans for talents and ME functions
General Tasks

  • Strict compliance with the quality, occupational safety and environmental regulations and implementation of the instructions of the quality / environmental management officer and the occupational safety specialist.
  • The manager is responsible for creating and maintaining facilities for his or her area of responsibility, and for giving instructions and taking other measures to ensure, maintain and improve occupational safety and environmental protection regarding occupational safety and environmental protection, the prevention of occupational accidents and environmental damage, occupational diseases and workrelated health hazards.
Required Experience, Education, Skills, Training and Competencies

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in in Manufacturing Engineering or similar. Advanced degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of related experience in a manufacturing company (ideally medical devices and/or disposables) with a global footprint, in ME or Production with deep inside into SCM
  • Management experience of at least 5 years
  • Very good user of MS Office Suite, Oracle or SAP R
  • Ideally six sigma training or certification
  • Present datadriven messages
  • Proactive, takes ownership and is accountable
  • Trusting personality and leadership quality
  • Analytical, numbers based and systematic method of operation
  • Ability to prioritize, organize effectively and manage multiple projects simultaneously under pressure
  • Entrepreneurial thinking, handson and implementation orientated

  • Good communication skills. Ability to communicate orally and in writing, in a clear and straightforward manner from shop floor level to Novanta C-Suite

Willingness and ability to travel internationally

Physical Requirements

In addition to being physically fit for any travel activities that may occur, it is necessary to be able to move around the office and production environment, including the clean room without physical limitations
