Institution:

Lehrstuhl für Fertigungsmesstechnik und Qualitätsmanagement

Our Profile:

Today's challenges in production technology can no longer be solved by rigid automation systems.

Digitalized, data-driven, and model-based systems enable adaptive planning and control as well as the embedding of quality assurance directly into the process chains along the entire product life cycle, from recycling to remanufacturing.

In the Dynamic Systems Planning group of the Sensing & Robotics department at the WZL Chair of Production Metrology and Quality Management, we support companies in developing and implementing novel data-based solutions for flexible, sustainable assembly.

The range of services ranges from classic analysis and consulting projects to the technical development of individual system solutions.

In doing so, we focus intensively on key topics such as the development and simulation of assembly and disassembly systems and planning and control in the ramp-up phase.

To strengthen our team, we are looking for committed students who would like to support us in industry and research projects.

We offer flat hierarchies, freedom for independent work, and the opportunity for professional and personal development.

Your Profile:

  • Technical studies (preferably mechanical engineering/production engineering, industrial engineering, CES or (business) computer science)
  • High level of commitment, willingness to learn and motivation
  • Flexibility in terms of time
  • Structured, independent and meticulous way of working
  • Very good knowledge of English
  • Very good knowledge of MS Office (especially PowerPoint and Excel)
  • Programming skills (e.g. Python) and simulation skills (e.g. Tecnomatix Plant Simulation) are an advantage

Your Duties and Responsibilities:

The work as a student assistant in our department is diverse and highly dependent on ongoing research and industry projects.

A long-term position at our institute is desired.

As a member of the Dynamic Systems Planning group, you will support a research assistant in the processing of research and industry projects in the field of simulation-based assembly planning and control.

This includes support for the conception of flexible assembly systems, participation in the construction of discrete event simulation models and support for the further development of planning and control algorithms under uncertain conditions.

Typical tasks are:

  • Preparation and support for workshops with industry partners
  • Processing of practical tasks, e.g., preparation of data from our industrial partners
  • Support in the further development of simulation models and execution of simulation experiments
  • Participation in the further development of machine learning algorithms
  • Development of the interfaces for the automated simulation tools, GUI, etc.

What We Offer:

The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date and offered for a fixed term of initially 6 months.

An extension is possible and desirable if the work performance is positive.
This is a part-time contract position.
The standard weekly hours will be 9-19 hours.
The salary is based on the RWTH Guidelines for Student and Graduate Assistants.
The position corresponds to a pay grade of 13,00 € per hour.

About us:

RWTH is a certified family-friendly University.

We support our employees in maintaining a good work-life balance with a wide range of health, advising, and prevention services, for example university sports.

Employees who are covered by collective bargaining agreements and civil servants have access to an extensive range of further training courses and the opportunity to purchase a job ticket.
