About the Role

You are expected to:

  • Lead and manage the global Credit&Surety Legal team, working closely with the Regional Legal CorSo leads to attract and develop legal talent while fostering high performance with high integrity
  • Lead and further develop transaction governance and oversight across Credit&Surety, define and enhance structure and processes in the area of transactions, strengthen knowledge management and the develop "house positions" for Credit&Surety
  • Act as a trusted partner to the business by ensuring across the Credit&Surety Legal team there is timely, high quality legal advice, clear articulation of legal risks and opportunities with respect to Credit&Surety transactions globally
  • Oversee legal support of transactions within scope of team mandate ensuring a holistic perspective is maintained for purposes of sound judgment and advice
  • Ensure regular preparation of lessons learned from transactions, together with Claims and the business, to ensure continuous learnings are applied for the benefit of the team as well as other involved functions. Take the lead in the knowledge sharing of these lessons learned and ensure due attention is given to high risk and businessrelevant topics
  • Ensure there is adequate monitoring of legal and regulatory trends affecting relevant business areas and consequent reporting on such developments. Ensure timely risk reporting on transactions and other relevant legal topics
  • Drive forward key transactional initiatives and projects and support internal group projects and initiatives as needed
  • Partner and proactively collaborate with other functions such as Compliance, Risk Management, Internal Audit, and the Contracts & Wording function

We are looking for you if you:

  • Are a fully qualified lawyer (bar exam)
  • Have a minimum of 10 years post qualification experience, preferably with a law firm or inhouse in the (re)insurance and/or banking industry
  • Have experience in regulations and practices and a sound understanding of crossborder issues, structured finance and collateral structures
  • Demonstrate confidence in leading and managing teams in a multicultural environment. Act as a change agent and foster employee engagement and performance.
  • Have experience and understanding of laws, regulations and documentation standards in the areas of credit & surety and/or banking/lending (e.g. LMA/BAFT loan documentation standards), familiarity with derivatives documentation and practices is a plus
  • Are a strong communicator (written and verbal). Proficiency in English is a must, additional languages are a plus
  • Are a trusted business partner, who develops strong relationships and communicates legal concepts clearly and succinctly
  • Have a track record of excellent influencing and legal project management skills
  • You are selfreflective, eager to continuously learn and grow, collaborative and ambitioned to meet and exceed expectations
