Beschreibung

With its research and development work, the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE, based in Freiburg, Germany, plays a leading role internationally in the field of renewable energy systems and technologies.

Securing the livelihood of present and future generations and preserving our natural environment are our driving forces.

With our current workforce of around 1,400 employees, we are shaping the transformation of energy supply through outstanding research results, successful projects with industrial partners, company spin-offs and global cooperation - towards the exclusive use of renewable energies.

For our group "Power-to-Liquids" we are looking for a Scientific Assistant on the topic of sustainable manufacturing processes for aviation fuels. The main focus is the collaboration on a federally funded project for the realization of a novel technology for the production of sustainable aviation fuels on a high TRL level and furthermore collaboration on the acquisition of the ASTM approval, which is required for the market entry of this SAF.

You want to actively shape the energy transition and develop your career in this field? The young and interdisciplinary team of the "Power-to-Liquids" group, which is located in the hydrogen business unit, will help you to achieve these goals.

What you will do

  • You support the project management in project controlling and monitoring and take over the management of work packages in direct, close exchange with the academic and industrial partners of the project consortium.
  • Your tasks will include literature research on sustainable powertojetfuels processes and familiarization with simulation platforms used and thermodynamic principles.
  • You extend an existing reactor or process model by different reaction kinetic approaches for jet fuel synthesis and validate and parameterize the model based on experimental data. In doing so, you will consider the separation of target products from the reaction mixture for different process concepts and process conditions.
  • You will work out the influence of different process parameters in a sensitivity analysis of the process model and support the construction, as well as the design, of test plants in different scales and further in the commissioning and execution of measurement campaigns with the supplementary data analysis.
  • You will support the development of analytical concepts for different system mixtures and phases and the successful implementation of these concepts together with an experienced team. In addition, you will accompany the operation of a pilot plant and the coordination of the logistics of feedstocks and products with the project team and consortium partners.
  • You coordinate the simulation activities of the different subprocesses and codevelop the technoeconomic evaluation platform of the process.
  • Your other responsibilities include documenting results, reporting, presenting results internally, and at national and international conferences.

What you bring to the table

  • You have a university degree (master's degree, preferably with a doctorate) in chemical engineering, process engineering, energy engineering or a comparable field.
  • You have already gained sound professional experience as well as experience in working on large projects.
  • Experience in project management is an advantage, but not mandatory.
  • Ideally, you are already familiar with hydrocarboncontaining systems and refinery processes and have basic knowledge of reaction engineering, separation processes and thermodynamics.
  • You will bring previous experience of working on process modelling and simulations and ideally you will have worked with Matlab or ASPEN Plus.
  • It is important to you to contribute to your team and also to achieve common goals in interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • It is easy for you to establish and maintain trusting contacts. You formulate your ideas in a comprehensible way and you listen to others attentively.
  • You have already successfully demonstrated your very good written and spoken English skills.

What you can expect

  • You will work with one of the most popular employers on a par with the best.
  • Openminded colleagues are happy to welcome new talent into their ranks.
  • We offer flexible working hours and give you the opportunity to work from home.
  • We also foster a cooperative working atmosphere and open communication.
  • We value equal opportunities and provide room for diversity.
  • You can participate in attractive sports and health programs and afterwork activities.
  • If required, we provide flexible daycare and kindergarten services at special rates for your children.
  • We offer you the use of additional services free of charge, such as life situation coaching, homecare eldercare, course offerings, and much more.
