The Opportunity


We are looking for an experienced Corporate Counsel to join our legal team ideally based in Germany to support a wide range of legal matters.

The primary focus of this role is to partner with the Electric Power Division (EPD), which includes inter alia the MWM brand, and to support the development of our power solutions for our customers.

You may also provide in country support to other Caterpillar business units that have operations in Germany.


Day to day the Corporate Counsel will deliver or coordinate the delivery of legal support to our Vice Presidents and General Managers within EPD as well as their direct reports, for a broad range of issues and business concerns, including commercial agreements, issues related to digital and advertising/marketing, purchasing, dispute resolution (including litigation), compliance and general business law matters.


Job Responsibilities and Duties:


  • Handle or coordinate the management of legal matters involving sales through dealer networks; direct sales; purchasing; real estate; competition; warranties; dispute resolution/litigation; bankruptcy of suppliers and distributors; and product regulatory.
  • Accountable to assess legal risk, identify and contribute to resolution of technical legal issues with a broad band of risk exposure with guidance from management.
  • Responsible for strategic planning as well as daytoday tactical legal issues.
  • Support complex tactical legal issues and provide inputs relevant to a broad array of strategy and problemsolving matters.
  • Provide careful evaluation of unique legal problems and issues and make recommendations to higher leadership on the best course of action, calling on past examples and inputs from all areas of legal services as required.

Skills and Experience:


  • Significant postqualified legal experience; demonstrating career progression and a broad knowledge in the practice of German or other European countries' law and foreign law in the commercial and corporate law areas of practice.
  • Law degree qualified and license/ qualification to practise law in a country of the European Economic Area, preferably Germany or Switzerland.
  • A trusted advisor and a confident communicator, acting as a business partner to provide strategic legal counsel to the senior leadership team.
  • Sound legal judgement; highly skilled in drafting, negotiation, and resolution management.
  • Experienced manager, able to lead, inspire and motivate.
