The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date and offered for a fixed term up to December 31, 2026.

The fixed-term employment is possible as it constitutes one of the fixed-term options of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (German Act on Fixed-term Scientific Contracts).

This is a full-time position.
The salary is based on the German public service salary scale (TV-L).
The position corresponds to a pay grade of EG 13 TV-L.


Unser Profil:

We are currently expanding our world-class international team. In this context we are looking for a talented scientific programmer.


Ihr Profil:


  • You have completed your university studies (Master or equivalent) in computer science, mathematics, statistics, scientific programming or a or a related area with outstanding grades.
  • You are a gifted programmer with strong programming and modern software engineering skills in Python, C(++) or a related language, are willing to learn new languages and in general willing to develop your professional skills continuously.
  • You are interested in familiarising yourself with the research field(s) covered by the chair's staff members, including Programming by Optimisation (PbO), AutoML, AutoAI, heuristic optimisation.
  • You have handson experience with Unix systems and scripting languages (e.g., Bashscript).
  • You have excellent language skills (English) and are willing to learn (some) German.
  • Your way of working is characterised by creativity, proactivity and flexible thinking.

Ihre Aufgaben:


  • You will (co)implement cuttingedge, highimpact software in the field of artificial intelligence. In particular you will help to make our AutoAI software Sparkle more robust, maintainable and userfriendly.
  • You will work with experts in the field of (automated) machine learning and optimisation.
  • You will have the opportunity to codesign our new, highly visible AlexandervonHumboldt chair in AI at the RWTH computer science department.
  • You will have the opportunity to aid in system administration.
  • You will have the opportunity to coauthor scientific publications.
