Job description:


GIZ International Services (InS) is a business unit within GIZ and is mainly in charge of projects funded by other donors than the German government, such as international organisations, bilateral donors, development banks, foundations and private companies.

In these sectors, the demand for GIZ's services in sustainable development has been steadily increasing over the years.

Our clients benefit from 40 years of practical experience in international cooperation and accumulated knowledge of 10,000 programmes and projects in more than 120 countries and more than 100 technical areas.

GIZ InS is able to deliver on highly complex challenges with excellent teams of German, international and local experts.


Based on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the GIZ and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) wish to continue and strengthen their fruitful partnership and effective collaboration in a number of sectors.

The purpose of this assignment is to provide expert advisory support to foster knowledge exchange and enable mutual learning between BMGF and the German Development Cooperation, as well as to advise on collaboration opportunities across various sectors through relationship management, research and analysis.


Your tasks:

You will be employed by GIZ and seconded to the Berlin office of the BMGF.

The scope of work, under the supervision of the BMGF manager and in cooperation with the team, includes:

  • Support delivery against overall collaboration objectives around co-financing and partnership development
  • As directed by the manager, ensure that joint efforts of BMGF and German Development Cooperation are moving forward, intensify cooperation in the thematic areas:
  • Agriculture and nutrition
  • Digital transformation (e.g. Digital Public Infrastructure, Digital Transformation Centres, digilab, etc.)
  • Health, Pandemic Prevention and One Health
  • Sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR)
- (Digital) Financial Inclusion of Women / Women Economic Empowerment

  • Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)
  • Help develop programmes with German Development Cooperation including donor interface, internal foundation teams, etc.;
  • Provide support to project management and coordination of bilateral partnerships with German Development Cooperation;
  • Support ongoing technical dialogues with German Development Cooperation which may involve preparing and attending meetings, coordinating information flow etc.
  • Prepare briefing documents for BMGF EMEEA (Europe, Middle East, East Asia) team related to bilateral partnerships (e.g., provide support for internal presentations)
  • Ensure knowledge sharing and dissemination of best practices based on German experience with other aspects of the Global Policy and Advocacy and EMEEA teams of the foundation
  • Work closely with the French bilateral consultant under the EMEEA team to share programmatic learnings and monitoring, learning and evaluation

Your profile:


  • Bachelor's or other advanced degree with 3+ years of professional experience, or equivalent experience in the sector of Development Cooperation.
  • Expertise in development issues and knowledge of project management.
  • Demonstrated professional experience working in or in close cooperation with international foundations. Familiarity with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is an asset.
  • Professional experience in development cooperation, ideally working in developing countries.
  • Knowledge of BMZ (and/or GDC implementing agencies GIZ, KfW, etc.) regulations and procedures.
  • Experience in designing, budgeting and implementing programmes or projects.
  • Ability to work on innovative finance, blended finance, and other financial cooperation tools.
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills in English especially condensing large amounts of complex information in a clear, concise manner.
  • High levels of coordination and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

Notes:

This position is suited to a full or a part-time position (80%).
