Global Head of Vessel Operations
- Location: Germany (Bremen or Hamburg)/within Europe**
Job Purpose


Implement operations plans and processes to deliver a smooth supply chain and operational model for the targeted business volumes, meet products/ services standards and exceed quality standards in line with business strategy and objectives, corporate guidelines and policies.

Responsible for the daily planning and execution of our global vessel movements.


Key Tasks

  • Implement operations plan together with the Operations and Chartering Team
  • Coordinate visàvis with all involved parties, both internally and externally in accordance with our best practices
  • Provide smooth vessel operations during vessel port calls.
  • Execute plans to deliver agreed customer, service, quality and financial objectives, overall accountable for each voyage.
  • Keep customers updated and nurse the commercial relationship in close coordination with the Chartering Department and the Opportunity Owner
  • Planning & Coordination
  • Daily planning and coordination of voyages, load & discharge operations and stowage plans
  • Checking itineraries, port congestion and all other matters having an impact on respective voyage
  • Vessel instructions and handling instructions shall be sent in accordance with the prevailing terms & conditions and best practices and in close coordination with the responsible engineering and chartering individuals
  • Load and discharge coordination together with Carrier's vessel operator
  • Commercial coordination, keeping customer updated, check and forward tender notices
  • Documentation: B/L, Manifest, Mate's receipt, SOF, NOR, seafreight, demurrage, detention, deadfreight
  • Notify and coordinate with P&I Club on all voyages, notify and coordinate with legal in case of claims.
  • Resolve complex issues occurring in operational activities, report to management on events and exceptions, as necessary
  • Adhere to policies and achieve compliance with statutory obligations and legislation related to safety, health, security environment & quality
  • Analyze productivity data and work methods to implement enhancements to increase operational efficiency and effectiveness

Stakeholders

  • May cooperate with and coordinate 3rd parties e.g. external service providers
  • Build strong, trusting crossfunctional relationships with DHL managers
  • Understand customer and key stakeholders interests and concerns and advise direct reports, customers and key stakeholders
  • Provide technical guidance to line managers and employees

Qualifications & Key Requirements

Education Level:
Apprenticeship in Shipping/Logistics, Bachelors Degree


Experience Level:
More than 6 years in similar role, Carrier background preferred
