Your tasks

  • Performing high level analysis of functional genomics datasets
  • Contribution to the design of new projects and development of new methodological approaches
  • Processing and bioinformatic analysis of large whole genome sequencingand phenotype datasets of various epidemiological cohorts (Hamburg City Health Study and others) from the cardiovascular and related areas
  • Interpretation of genetic variants with regard to their functionality and biological plausibility in the sense of
  • Computational Biology approaches
  • Participation in an interdisciplinary team consisting of medical and bioinformatic expertise
  • Planning and evaluation of experiments in the context of OMICS technologies
  • Development of options for secure data transfer
  • Use and development of bioinformatical methods for of OMICs data in systems medicine approaches
  • Close cooperation with the experimental group in the field of genomics to verify and interpret the results and classify the relevance
  • Close cooperation with CardioCare (Kühne Foundation)
  • Participation in the /Independent preparation of scientific publications and funding applications The project related position is limited to 2 years. An extension is pursued. The focus of our work is the identification and functional characterization of diseaserelated genes/proteins in the cardiovascular area. Our data set comprises a unique setting of genomic and phenotypic data and offers outstanding research opportunities. You can expect varied working tasks in an interdisciplinary team with a great atmosphere.
Darauf freuen wir uns

  • Completed scientific university degree and doctorate in bioinformatics or a comparable qualification (e.g. computer science, software engineering or medicine with bioinformatic qualification)
  • Substantial experience with data science and statistical analysis.
  • Strong quantitative analysis skills and experience developing algorithms and/or conducting statistical analysis with large datasets, particularly genomewide assays such as RNA-Seq and ATAC-Seq.
  • Strong conceptual and practical background in functional genomics methodologies and techniques.
  • Strong proficiency in computer programming (Python and R) and Unix HPC infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated excellent research capabilities required to carry out innovative and insightful research.
  • Enthusiasm for new methods and techniques in bioinformatics and their possible uses
  • Interest in biological / medical issues and readiness for interdisciplinary work
  • Confident written and spoken English language skills
  • Ability to finalize intellectually and technically complex projects is a key requirement
  • Commitment, independent work, sense of responsibility, flexibility, ability to work in a team
