Your working environment

  • We save lives This is our mission and at the same time the driving motivation in Group Accident Research. Formulated in the Vision Zero, we have dedicated our work to contribute to a significantly reducing number of people seriously injured and killed in road systems.

We are an interdisciplinary team consisting of engineers, experts, mathematicians, natural scientists and physicians, which faces the current and future challenges of vehicle safety and develops solutions.

We disseminate these solutions both within the Volkswagen Group and in the scientific community, thus ensuring that our findings benefit people in road traffic.

As part of this PhD-position, you will become part of our team, gaining important insights and thus also contribute to a reducing number of people being seriously injured or even killed in road traffic.

Your tasks

  • Today's mobility is constantly changing. For example, one of our own studies shows that cases covered by crash tests mainly focus on the selfprotection of vehicle occupants. As a result, new vehicles are safer than older ones, but compatibility between those vehicles involved in the accident also plays an important role. This phenomena, also known as partner protection, is currently only considered subordinate. In particular, the increasingly heavy vehicle fleet (BEVs, SUVs,...) and the simultaneous introduction of micromobility compliacte reaching the goals of Vision Zero, at least without further action.

A central question is therefore:
How can the safety level of the vehicles be measured in order to compare and reconcile self-protection and partner protection?
The final doctoral topic is defined together with the professor (M/F/d).

The prerequisite for the cooperation is the confirmation of supervision as well as a confirmed delimitation of topics by the professor (M/F/d) of a university or research institution entitled to confer a doctorate.

Your qualifications

  • Good to very good completed studies with doctoral qualification in the fields of mechanical engineering/automotive engineering or similar
  • Sound knowledge of mathematicalstatistical methods
  • Experience in the world of accident research desirable, but not a must
  • Very good language skills (C1-C2) in English required, native speakers welcome
  • Good language skills in German desirable (language course will be offered)

In addition, we expect:

  • Good communication and integration skills
  • High ability to work in a team as well as selfinitiative

Your benefits:

  • Attractive salary & 30 vacation days
  • 35hour week, flexible working hours, remote work
  • Free seminars on scientific work and interdisciplinary qualifications
  • 3year doctoral program with subsequent possibility of permanent employment
