A future with tradition-shaping science: Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU) offers a wide range

in Saxony-Anhalt was founded in 1817 by merging the universities in Wittenberg and Halle

Today, it has 340 professors and 20,000 students. Its research focuses on the material and biological sciences,

the Enlightenment, and social and cultural research.

At the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Faculty of Natural Sciences II, Institute of Chemistry, we

are looking to fill the following position, which is limited until

Scientific researcher (m-w-d) (Ph.
D. student)

to be filled part-time 50%.

Remuneration will be paid up to group 13 TV-L, depending on the tasks assigned and fulfillment of personal

requirements.


Work tasks:
With the European Center of Just Transition Research and Impact-Driven Transfer (JTC), an interdisciplinary re
- search center will be established at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, which will address questions

about the fair design of changing techno-socio-economic processes in transition regions in Central Germany

and will link 'questions of the day after tomorrow' with current challenges.

The innovation team Bifunctional Catalysts for Green Molecules investigates the conversion of renewable ener
- gies into useful compounds.

  • Design and prepare highly efficient catalysts/electrodes for electrochemical renewable energy conversion,
e.g. electrochemical water splitting, CO2 reduction, and/or other conversion reactions for the synthesis of

different kinds of green molecules

  • Prepare catalysts/electrodes by CVD, hydrothermal, ALD, sputter, evaporation, and other methods available
in the group

  • Performance measurements on the prepared catalysts/electrodes with welldeveloped electrochemical cells
  • Perform insitu measurements to investigate the reaction mechanism
  • Data analysis and writing manuscripts
  • Supervision of BSc and MSc theses
  • The possibility of obtaining a Ph.
D. degree is provided


YOUR PROFILE

  • A completed Master's degree in chemistry, materials science, physics, and/or a similar field
  • Strong interest in the research areas of nanotechnology, electrochemistry, photoelectrochemistry, artificial
in one or more of these research areas

  • Handson technical experience with (or strong interest in) nanostructure preparation and characterization
is beneficial. e.g. CVD growth of carbon material, ALD, hydrothermal, sol-gel, electrodeposition, or other

fantastic methods

  • Experience with insitu measurements or DFT simulations for studying the reaction mechanism is beneficial,
but not required

  • Ability and willingness to work independently and as a member of a team in an international environment
  • Good PC skills, e.g. in using MS Office, Origin, and ChemDraw
  • Ability to work in a team, reliability, willingness to learn, willingness to help, communication skills
