Your Profile:

Your Duties and Responsibilities:

Elderly people are often physically restricted in their mobility, which reduces their quality of life and increases the burden on healthcare systems.

For these people as well as for individuals recovering from an injury or surgery, robotics can help restore mobility.

You will be part of the IRT's research group "Biomedical Engineering", supported by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and dedicated to utilizing mínimalist robot technologies to promote mobility.

Specifically, we are currently looking for employees in two different projects:

  • Control of an autonomous robot ball to promote physical activity in children and adults. The challenge is that the robot is underactuated, which limits the controllability of the system.
  • Assistive control of our Gyro Backpack. This system is a backpacklike robot that supports wearers in maintaining balance. The principle is based on the gyroscopic effect, where inertial forces of rotating bodies stabilize the user's balance.
Beyond, your job will include a variety of tasks in the following areas:

  • Supervising bachelor's and master's theses,
  • Writing scientific publications,
  • Representing the department and institute at conferences and trade fairs,
  • Supporting the biomedical system department management in, for example, project acquisition.
The research builds on a series of previous projects in the field of robot-assisted rehabilitation and mobility. For this reason, you can build on a broad knowledge and hardware foundation.

To validate the developed technologies and control algorithms, you will cooperate with (medical) partners of the University Hospital Aachen and/or RWTH Aachen, as well as international experts, especially at TU Delft and Erasmus MC in Rotterdam.

What We Offer:

The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date and offered for a fixed term of two years.

The fixed-term employment is possible as it constitutes one of the fixed-term options of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (German Act on Fixed-term Scientific Contracts).

This is a full-time position.
The salary is based on the German public service salary scale (TV-L).
The position corresponds to a pay grade of EG 13 TV-L.

About us:
