The position is assigned to the workgroup of Prof. W.

Kuch, which has experience investigating ultrathin magnetic films, surfaces, adsorbed molecules, and nanostructures that may become relevant in a future spin-based electronics.

A focus is on ultrafast spin dynamics. Experiments are carried out both by laboratory-based techniques as well as by using synchrotron radiation.

Job description:

The project consists of research in the field of x-ray spectroscopy of two-dimensional magnetic materials. The goal is the characterisation of these materials in the few
- or single-monolayer limit and their controlled manipulation by external parameters such as the interaction with a substrate or adsorbed molecules. These materials are interesting with respect to their use as programmable building blocks of a future spin electronics. Following deposition in ultra-high vacuum, they are characterised by surface-science techniques and x-ray photoemission as well as x-ray absorption spectroscopy. An important aspect is also their ultrafast spin dynamics. Experiments will be carried out in the university laboratory in Berlin-Dahlem and at the synchrotron radiation source BESSY II in Berlin-Adlershof.
