Our Directorate General Financial Stability is currently looking for a motivated and suitably qualified student to take up a paid internship in the field of systemic interlinkages and textual analysis.


What the internship entails:


Topic area 1:
Developing a cross-sectoral, integrated stress test model.

  • You will help us to merge microdata from the German banking, investment fund and insurance sectors and assist in modelling and programming different risk channels for the model.

Topic area 2:
Contribution to our text-mining project.

  • You will support us in consolidating and analysing various textual sources such as speeches and newspaper articles with regard to possible risks to financial stability.
  • You will use various NLP methods, e.g. topic modeling approaches and sentiment analyses.

Topic area 3:
Analytical projects on financial interconnectedness

  • You will support us in the collection and consolidation of micro datasets on credit and bank balance sheet information as well as the econometric analysis of the data with regard to bank lending

What we are looking for:


  • Graduate student (Master's or PhD) in economics, computer science, (business) mathematics, or similar.
  • Good knowledge of R or Python, including the relevant data transformation and analysis libraries (e.g. Tidyverse and Pandas), and experience in analysing microdata.
  • Experience with databases and knowledge of SQL would be an advantage.
  • Experience in automated web scraping and knowledge of common NLP procedures would be useful.
