Scope of duties

The Child Life Specialist (CLS) team at the Dr.

von Haunerschen Kinderspital is a new specialized care unit in the German health care system focusing on child welfare and a holistic and participatory approach to pediatrics.

The CLS team accompany sick children and their families during a hospital stay.

They are committed to ensuring that, in a hospital system dominated by adults, all environmental structures are prepared and designed in accordance with the reality of children's lives.

They promote child-friendly communication and the implementation of the principles agreed in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in everyday hospital life.

The CLS team works closely and trustfully with the interdisciplinary and multiprofessional therapeutic teams.

  • You will assist the Lead of the Pädagogik Team with onsite clinical training of existing and new Child Life Specialist team members.
  • You will strengthen the CLS team by facilitating practical, theoretical, and clinical training, via formal and informal educational lectures and directly on the wards 1:1 with CLS team members in our Children's Hospital.
  • You will work to help the CLS team build clinical resources, infrastructure, and sustainable work systems within our Children's Hospital.
  • You will actively participate in further training of childoriented communication and share your knowledge with all those involved in the Children's Hospital.
  • You will network with other international CLS programs to determine best practice and training.
  • You will advocate for children, siblings and parents/caregivers in hospital, inline with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, to shape the image of the Children's Hospital with your work.

Our requirements

  • Completed professional training/M.A. or M.S. studies in child life, therapeutic recreation, or related field.
  • Professional certification from the Association of Child Life Professionals (ACLP) as a Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS).
  • Several years of pediatric healthcare experience as a Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS).
  • Preferably demonstrated experience in a supervisory role (students, interns, etc.).
  • Language proficiency: German (minimum A1 level) and English (fluent).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong intercultural communication, teamwork and listening skills.
  • Ability to problem solve and make decisions with mínimal supervision and to work independently when needed.
  • Skill in prioritizing multiple tasks projects and demands, when needed.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.
  • Actively supporting scientific projects and research to ensure the sustainability of the CLS program.
