Airbus Helicopters is looking for a


Functional and System Design Responsible for Optronic Mission Systems (d/f/m)


You will join a team of 55 engineers in the "Situational Awareness and Mission Management" department which is in charge of terrain/weather/threats/traffic awareness functions, vision enhancement and targeting systems, data-links as well as mission management systems for all (e-)VTOLs.

Your mission will consist of system engineering activities and helicopter level integration of optronic systems (e.g. Augmented Reality Systems, Enhanced Vision Systems, Electro Optical Systems, Targeting system).

At our Donauwörth site, located on the banks of the river Danube, we develop helicopters from the initial idea to the airworthy product.

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • End to End Functional chain definition
  • Requirements engineering
  • Definition and implementation of operational concepts and use cases for optronic systems
  • Ensure planning at equipment and helicopter level for development and qualification
  • Participate in offer management and contributing to product sourcing policy
  • Assess suppliers' offers with other stakeholders
  • Interface with project management, purchasing, sales department and other project stakeholders throughout the organization
  • Management of suppliers and direct interface customers
  • Proactively control and monitor suppliers during the development phase, with the aim of safeguarding technical requirement
  • Technical responsible for the integration of optronic systems into complex helicopter avionics
  • Manage suppliers during development phase
  • Support rig, ground and flight testing of the equipment
  • Ensure the qualification / certification of equipment and the according functions
  • Technical responsible for optronic systems integration
  • Benchmark our solutions with state of the art optronic ones (e.g. in the field of augmented reality, laser technology, image processing)
  • Actively contribute to definition and execution of research and technology (R&T) activities and optronic systems product strategy
  • Supporting knowledge exchange within Airbus (all divisions)
  • This role may involve some travel for business (once a quarter in France) and as such you must be able to travel accordingly.

Desired skills and qualifications

  • Academic studies in the field of Physics, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or similar
  • Knowledge in systems engineering, requirements engineering and integration in the field of avionics
  • Team Spirit, good communication skills and experience in stakeholder management
  • A previous experience in the design, development, and integration of optronics systems (e.g. Augmented Reality Systems, Enhanced Vision Systems, Electro Optical Systems, Targeting system) for aircraft would be an advantage
  • A previous experience with agile methodology (Scrum, SAFe) would be an advantage
  • A previous experience in Supplier Management would be an advantage
  • Language skills: English business fluent / negotiation level, knowledge of German, French or Spanish would be an advantage
  • This position will require a security clearance or will require being eligible for clearance by the recognized authorities.
  • Priority will be given to employees whose position is impacted by a workforce adaptation initiative.
