The fixed-term employment is possible as it constitutes one of the fixed-term options of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (German Act on Fixed-term Scientific Contracts).

This is a full-time position.
The salary is based on the German public service salary scale (TV-L).
The position corresponds to a pay grade of EG 14 TV-L.


Unser Profil:

The Chair of Communication and Distributed Systems (COMSYS) researches novel methodologies for communication systems of any kind. Particular research foci are Internet architectures, security and privacy, as well as cyber-physical systems.

In close collaboration with Dominique Unruh, who holds the BMW Endowed Professorship for "Quantum Information Systems" at RWTH Aachen University, we intend to establish a profile area for quantum communication, with an emphasis on cyber-physical systems.

The chair employs a dynamic team of junior researchers and postdocs.

The team currently consists of 14 scientific employees, three administrative and technical staff members, and a fluctuating number of student research and teaching assistants.


Research at COMSYS is funded by a multitude of institutions, including the European Union, German Research Foundation, as well as state and federal ministries.


Ihr Profil:


  • Experience in research of quantum communication or quantum computing methodologies
  • You are willing and able to establish a new research area and guide PhD students
  • You have passion for conceiving and exploring novel and creative ideas, and enjoy conveying your knowledge to students
  • You have experience in the publication of excellent research papers
  • You have excellent analytic faculty and enjoy realizing project ideas and proposing new projects together with colleagues, graduate students, and undergraduate students
  • Fluency in written and oral English
  • German language skills are desirable

Ihre Aufgaben:

You will establish the research area of quantum communication at COMSYS. This includes executing funded projects, proposing new projects, seeking new staff members, and advising PhD students. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to offer courses to make your topic visible for younger students.

The goal is to establish a group of researchers that will investigate how quantum communication can assist modern communication systems.

A particular focus will be the analysis of quantum communication for power grids.

You will be hired in the context of a collaborative project that supports the establishment of a profile area and brings together partners from COMSYS, E.On Energy Research Center, Forschungszentrum Jülich, and Münster University, as well as our local collaborator Dominique Unruh.
