Role Purpose


To create an IP strategy that drives first-to-market (and last to exit) launch for all products assigned to the position in alignment with all relevant stakeholders, taking into account the development, legal, regulatory and commercial factors, with mínimal supervision.


Your Key Responsibilities

  • Creating and driving IP strategies for firsttomarket (and last to exit) launches of generic products in worldwide markets, taking into account timelines, competition, cost and risk/benefit evaluations with mínimal supervision and support
  • Serve as strategic partner to internal client and business partners on patent and related IP issues, including communicating global patent strategy and IP risks, launch optimization using IP, smart premarketing strategies and understanding the regulatory landscape for intended launches. Ability to communicate this information in a straightforward and pragmatic manner.
  • Ability to evaluate risks and opportunities in financial terms, with some assistance
  • Executing the highest quality patent litigation strategies including the provision of invalidity and noninfringement positions to ensure Sandoz is firsttomarket and last to exit i.e. ensure IP supports the most effective product costs
  • Providing input on IP contract terms and performing IP due diligence
  • Identify and protect inventions, but also constantly review and consider whether to continue with our patent rights
  • Maintain and improve professional expertise
  • Contribute to building knowledge and skills within the department and wider organization
  • Guidance, support and mentoring to other colleagues in the IP organization

Minimum requirements

  • Qualified as a lawyer (in one or more national or state jurisdiction) and/or European patent attorney
  • At least 8 years practicing patent law in a law firm or corporation.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience working in pharmaceutical patent litigation, preferably in a pharmaceutical company, most preferably in a generics company.
  • English, competency in a second language preferable.
