A major key to success in facing climate change and creating more resilient supply chains is the transformation of feedstocks from fossil resources to renewable raw materials.

Led by the Hamburg University of Technology, the CRC 1615 is developing processes and reactors that respond flexibly to the fluctuating properties of renewable raw materials, thus enabling self-adapting, more resilient process engineering

Project B06:

Systematic multiscale modelling and design approach for SMART reactors
In this project, a systematic approach for multiscale modelling and design of SMART reactors is developed.

For this purpose, internal structures of multiphase reactors are analysed and locally optimized by means of high-resolution validated CFD simulations.

In addition, superstructure optimization will be used to derive optimal reactor networks, as well as systemic and compartment models, on the basis of which a systematic optimization-based design of local and global reactor structures will be performed.

In the course of the SFB, the flexibility of smart components will be systematically considered by a multistage optimization approach to enable autonomous SMART reactors.

YOUR TASKS

  • Development of a systematic tool for the derivation of accurate reduced order models for multiphase reactors
  • Modelbased optimal design of flexible SMART reactors
  • Evaluation of different concepts for SMART reactors in collaboration with partners in the CRC
  • Writing of scientific publications
  • Project management, including the integration and supervision of student

YOUR PROFILE

  • Aboveaverage university degree (Master's degree or comparable) in the fields of process engineering, chemical engineering, computational engineering science, or comparable
  • Understanding of conceptual process design, chemical reactors and fluid dynamics
  • Scientific programming skills (e.g. Python/Matlab) and knowledge and experience in the field of applied optimization (e.g. Python/Pyomo, GAMS) are ideally available
  • Interest in scientific work, selfmotivation and performance orientation
  • Ability to communicate and work in a team as well as to act independently and on one's own responsibility

OUR OFFER

  • We offer you the opportunity for scientific qualification with the goal of a doctoral degree (PhD)
  • Scientific guidance and collaboration in a interdisciplinary and highly motivated team
  • Participation in national & international conferences and interdisciplinary collaborations
  • Support and room for maneuver in the further development of research topics
  • Flexible and familyfriendly working conditions, 30 days of vacation per year
  • Special conditions in selected sports and fitness clubs"
