The Mitochondrial Toxicology research group at the Institute of Molecular Toxicology and Pharmacology at Helmholtz Munich focuses on direct toxic effects on these cellular key organelles in human disease.

One prime example of our work centers around copper toxicity on mitochondria in Wilson disease.

Within a Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) funded European research network we are investigating novel therapeutic options for this devastating disease.

This involves biochemical and biophysical mitochondrial analyses, cellular studies, isolated organ investigations and animal studies.

We are looking for a highly motivated
