  • As part of the NRW-FAIR research network and the North Rhine-Westphalian competence network for highperformance computing (HPC.NRW), a postdoctoral position is available at the University of Bielefeld for an initial period of two years. Your tasks include participation in projects on lattice gauge theory at high temperatures and densities. You will support research projects in the working group of Dr. Olaf Kaczmarek in the field of hadronic excitations and electromagnetic probes (photons and dileptons) in the quarkgluon plasma. In the HPC.NRW competence network, you will work, among other things, on the efficient use of HPC resources and aspects of research data.
  • Your Tasks
  • The tasks essentially include:
- research on QCD at high temperatures and/or finite densities using numerical simulations of the lattice-regularized theory, participation in the program development for lattice
  • QCD calculations on new computer architectures (about 40 %)
- participation in projects on the efficient use of HPC resources and aspects of research data management (about (30 %)
- independent research in the research area of the NRW-FAIR network, especially in the context of lattice
  • QCD (about 20 %)
- participation in teaching and academic self-administration of the Faculty of Physics (up to 10 %)

The employment is conducive to scientific qualification.

  • Your Profile
We expect
- relevant scientific academic degree (e. g. Master or Diploma), preferably in physics, computer science or a related field
- independent scientific work
- ability to independently write scientific publications and technical documentationf
- very good written and spoken English
- excellent communication skills

  • Preferred experience and skills
- doctorate in physics, computer science or a related field
- knowledge in elementary particle or nuclear physics
- experience in the field of lattice
  • QCD data analysis and simulations
- experience in numerical work and interest in computer hardware, especially GPU architectures
- programming skills, e. g. in C++, Python, CUDA
