What to expect

In the IAM working group "Image Processing and Medical Imaging" (IPMI), we develop, for example, AI-based methods and solutions for diagnostic and therapeutic support in image-guided medicine.

In a project funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), we are working on strategies to efficiently utilize simulated and synthetic image data for training AI systems in biomedical imaging, reconstruction, and analysis.

Application areas include X-ray fluorescence imaging (XFI) and digital subtraction angiography (DSA). The focus of the advertised position will be the modeling of physiological processes to be represented by respective imaging techniques, the simulation of corresponding spatial-temporal image data using hardware and software phantoms, and the development of methods for AI-based analysis of the corresponding spatial-temporal image data (e.g. image-based tracking of immune cell populations, nanoparticles, and instruments; outcome prediction). Methodologically, we particularly address super-resolution and out-of-distribution detection using self-supervision and physics-informed deep learning.

  • For the project implementation, we are looking for a highly motivated doctoral student/research associate. This position is available immediately and is initially limited to three years, with a possibility of extension.

Your Profile:

***- MSc in computer science, physics or related fields

  • Good programming skills
  • Experience and knowledge in machine learning
  • Experience and knowledge in image processing or computer vision
  • Experience and knowledge in (bio)medical imaging would be beneficial
  • Experience and knowledge in the field of modeling of spatiotemporal processes would be beneficial
  • Openness and communication skills to ensure smooth collaboration within the team
  • Ability to work independently and responsibly, analytical and structured working methods, and a "handson" work attitude
