Beschreibung

The Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT is Europe's leading center for contract research and development in the field of laser technology.

Currently funded by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, the Fraunhofer ILT is collaborating with TNO in Delft, Netherlands, to develop the hardware for a future quantum internet node.

This setup serves initially as a testing and development platform for quantum network components and, subsequently, as the foundation for connecting to a planned international quantum network - the first of its kind.

While the majority of tasks will be carried out at the Fraunhofer ILT in Aachen, periods of residence at TNO in Delft are also envisaged.

These periods involve becoming acquainted with technological aspects and gaining practical experience in operating and characterizing the system.

What you will do

  • Supporting the team in the realization and operation of a quantum internet node as a development platform
  • Conceptualizing, planning, building, and characterizing photonic quantum systems, as well as devising test processes
  • Presenting results at conferences and engaging in communication with partners and customers
  • Supervising student projects and assisting staff
  • Contributing to the acquisition of new research and development projects in this domain

What you bring to the table

  • A completed master's degree in physics or a related field
  • Proficiency and experience in at least one of the areas: quantum physics, laser technology, or (nonlinear) optics
  • Ideally, prior practical laboratory experience
  • High commitment, selfinitiative, independent and responsible work approach, communication skills, creativity, and teamwork
  • Excellent written and spoken English and German skills

What you can expect

  • Diverse, exciting, and challenging tasks in applied research
  • A modern workplace with topnotch equipment and a unique research infrastructure
  • A friendly team in an innovative research environment
  • Training in project management tasks
  • Room to implement your innovative ideas
  • Opportunity for a PhD at RWTH Aachen University
  • Opportunity for individual development through a wide range of further education options (seminars, coaching, language courses, etc.)
  • Flexible working hours based on trust, as well as the option for remote work
  • Balance between personal life, family, and work
The weekly working time is 39 hours.

This position is also available on a part-time basis.

The position is initially limited to 3 years.

Appointment, remuneration and social security benefits based on the public-sector collective wage agreement (TVöD).

With its focus on developing key technologies that are vital for the future and enabling the commercial utilization of this work by business and industry, Fraunhofer plays a central role in the innovation process.

As a pioneer and catalyst for groundbreaking developments and scientific excellence, Fraunhofer helps shape society now and in the future.
