Research project:

In order to ensure the food supply of the world's population in the face of limited natural resources and increasingly occurring weather extremes affecting harvests, it is essential to further develop cultivation methods to improve their resource and energy usage and efficiency.

The aim of the research project (with industrial participation) is the optimal feedback control of the growth of agricultural plants and their complex dynamic interactions with the production conditions (e.g.

atmosphere, light spectra, nutrient solutions, humidity,...) in a controlled production environment. For this purpose, model
- and data-based predictive controls will be developed and tested in real experiments, among others. Artificial intelligence methods will be used to predict quality parameters etc.

Tasks include:
- planning and evaluation of test series on growth processes in controlled production environments
- modeling and analysis under different production conditions
- development of model
- and data-based control methods including theoretical analyses of the properties of these methods
- publications of research results in international journals and presentations at international conferences
- carrying out internal professorship tasks as well as the supervision of students in the project

The tasks will also depend on the individual interests and the overall composition of the project team.

Requirements:

- completed scientific university degree in the field of cybernetics, biosystems or process engineering, applied mathematics, control and automation engineering, computer science or comparable disciplines, which opens access to the corresponding qualification level
- advantageous are: Good knowledge in control engineering and modeling of biological systems as well as in the field of machine learning and artificial intelligence
- very good command of written and spoken English

The position will be occupied conditional upon the provision and approval of third-party funding by the third-party funding provider.

The temporary employment is in accordance with the regulations of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (WissZeitVG) and the Sächsisches Hochschulfreiheitsgesetz (SächsHSFG) as amended.
